Malaysia data centre capacity to reach 860MW by 2025

The country is expected to reach over 2,000MW of capacity beyond 2027.

According to a recent JLL report, over the past two decades, Malaysia has made significant progress in terms of building data centres and the market looks to grow even further.

Currently, supply stands at roughly 262 MW. However, it looks to grow to approx. 860 MW by the end of 2025. Taking into account all proposed data centre projects, the country is looking at a potential total wattage of approx. 2,270 MW beyond 2027.

Here’s more from JLL:

The market is relatively active, with many international investors looking to establish operations within the country which further speaks to the growth potential of the market. The demand drivers for data centres are strong, and that further capacity would be absorbed due to increasing requirements for fast and efficient data management and storage solutions.

Further, the accelerating adoption of AI technologies also plays a key role as such technologies require immense computing power, which data centres will play a key role in facilitating.
